The first meeting between two people can be the reason of many.
It may be the cause of them falling in love with each other, becoming friends or enemies. It is the first impression that two or more people give to another, the circumstances under it happened and the first reactions to this meeting.

About your piece, it can be clearly seen that these two young people are the opposite both in sexes and in appearance. The boy seems to be an ordinary one, as he casually dressed while the girl is more formally. The boy stands before the rays of sun while the girl has chosen the shadow of a cherry tree. Between them, there is the ocean, separated into two parts, the one where the rays of sun fall and the other one darker under the sky's clouds. But, even if both the ocean and the sky seem to separate these two young people, in fact, they bring them closer to each other. This can be assummed also by the cherry tree's leaves flowing towards the boy's side and the rays of sun falling on the girl's back. The cloudy sky shows the mixed feelings these two have. Even though they are turning their backs to each other, at the same time, their looks are meeting. Both of them, being confused about themselves can't help but stand in their positions.

About the visual impact, I have to say that the piece is very clear. Both the picture and the message can be transfered to the viewer. The technique may have minor problems, but over all is good enough. The vision of this picture is clear enough. As for the originality, it can be assummed that it's a clever way to portray characters that aren't yours while using your own ideas and imagination. That makes it original as well!
